Did you know April is named after the Latin word “aprilis,” which means “to open.” The month was named after the goddess Aphrodite, who opened her eyes in April.

  • April’s full moon is called Pink Moon, and in 2023 will rise on Wednesday, April 5, reaching peak illumination at 12:37 A.M. Eastern Time. This full Moon is also the Paschal Full Moon this year.
  • April is a great month for meteor showers. One of which is the Lyrids meteor shower, which appears from April 16th to April 26th each year. There’s another one called the Eta Aquariids meteor shower that can be seen onwards from April 21st.
  • Diamonds aren’t the only way April babies are connected to weddings. According to the authors of the Love Zodiac, people who get married under the Aries sign (between April 1 and April 19) are likely to thrive as individuals and have a marriage filled with spontaneity. If you get married during those last 10 days of April, you’re likely to have a very grounded marriage and bond over a shared taste for the finer things in life.

One of the most perpetuated myths about diamonds is that they are rare, but they are not. Diamonds are actually quite common and they are found in many parts of the world where they are mined in large quantities. A handful of companies control the diamond market and gouge folks but that’s something for another post.

Diamonds have for a long time been the hardest *natural* substance on earth, however, last year scientists discovered a new mineral, lonsdaleite. Lonsdaleite was found in a meteorite that scientists say came from a dwarf planet that was billions of years old. An asteroid crashed into that planet, releasing pressure that caused the stone to form. The hardness of lonsdaleite could be useful in making super-durable tools for industrial sites.

According to folklore diamonds are said to bring good luck and fortune and they are a symbol of love and purity. It’s said that wearing a diamond can improve your relationships, boost your self-esteem and confidence and improve mental clarity and focus.
